| Abstract | Industrial Control Systems (ICS) constitute a critical technological foundation for manufacturing, energy, transportation, water management, and other infrastructure-dependent operations. The increasing integration of industrial networks with enterprise systems, cloud platforms, remote-access technologies, and Internet of Things devices has expanded the cybersecurity exposure of traditionally isolated control environments. Conventional information technology security mechanisms are often insufficient for ICS because industrial environments prioritize availability, operational continuity, safety, and deterministic performance. This paper examines cybersecurity technologies and protective mechanisms designed to strengthen the security of industrial control systems against evolving cyber threats. The study reviews network segmentation, industrial firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, secure remote access, endpoint protection, identity management, encryption, security monitoring, and anomaly detection technologies. A structured analytical approach is used to evaluate these technologies according to their security capabilities, operational suitability, implementation complexity, and contribution to resilience. The analysis demonstrates that effective ICS cybersecurity requires a multilayered architecture rather than dependence on a single protective technology. Network segmentation and controlled communication provide foundational protection, while intrusion detection, behavioral analytics, secure authentication, and continuous monitoring strengthen detection and response capabilities. The study further emphasizes the importance of integrating cybersecurity controls with operational technology requirements and safety considerations. The findings indicate that technology selection should be based on system criticality, network architecture, communication protocols, operational constraints, and organizational risk. Future industrial cybersecurity environments are expected to increasingly incorporate artificial intelligence, zero-trust architectures, digital twins, automated response mechanisms, and adaptive security analytics. The paper concludes that coordinated deployment of preventive, detective, and responsive cybersecurity technologies can significantly improve the resilience and trustworthiness of modern industrial control systems. |
