| Abstract | The emergence of fifth-generation wireless communication has created new opportunities for industrial environments requiring high-speed connectivity, low communication latency, reliability, scalability, and support for large numbers of connected devices. Industrial communication systems increasingly connect machines, sensors, robots, controllers, autonomous vehicles, and engineering applications within highly integrated cyber-physical environments. Conventional wired and earlier-generation wireless networks may encounter limitations when supporting highly dynamic industrial operations and geographically distributed equipment. This paper examines 5G-enabled industrial communication systems and their potential applications in real-time engineering environments. The study focuses on enhanced mobile broadband, ultra-reliable low-latency communication, massive machine-type communication, network slicing, edge computing, industrial Internet of Things connectivity, and private 5G architectures. A structured analytical methodology is employed to evaluate the contribution of these technologies to real-time industrial communication. The analysis indicates that 5G can provide significant benefits for applications involving robotic coordination, remote equipment monitoring, autonomous transportation, predictive maintenance, augmented engineering operations, and real-time process control. Network slicing and private 5G architectures can further enable organizations to configure communication resources according to application-specific requirements. However, successful industrial deployment requires careful consideration of spectrum management, cybersecurity, infrastructure cost, interoperability, network reliability, and integration with existing industrial communication protocols. The study also identifies the importance of edge computing for reducing communication delays by processing data closer to industrial devices. Future research should investigate AI-assisted 5G network optimization, integrated 5G-edge architectures, digital twins, deterministic industrial communication, and advanced security mechanisms. The paper concludes that 5G-enabled communication systems can serve as an important foundation for next-generation real-time engineering applications when deployed through carefully designed, secure, and application-oriented industrial network architectures. |
