| Abstract | Rapid urbanization, climate variability, population growth, and increasing infrastructure demands have intensified pressure on water resources and distribution systems. Conventional water management approaches frequently depend on periodic monitoring, manual intervention, and reactive maintenance, limiting their ability to respond effectively to changing demand and infrastructure conditions. Intelligent water management technologies provide an integrated approach by combining sensors, Internet of Things networks, artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive analytics, automated control, and digital monitoring platforms. These technologies enable infrastructure operators to collect continuous information about water flows, pressure, quality, consumption, and system performance. This paper examines the role of intelligent water management technologies in supporting sustainable infrastructure development. It evaluates how smart monitoring, predictive analytics, automated distribution, leakage detection, water-quality assessment, and data-driven decision-making can improve operational efficiency and resource conservation. The analysis emphasizes the relationship between intelligent technologies and sustainability outcomes, including reduced water losses, improved infrastructure reliability, efficient energy utilization, enhanced service continuity, and better environmental management. A conceptual analytical approach is used to examine major technological capabilities and their contributions to sustainable water infrastructure. The findings indicate that intelligent water management can transform conventional infrastructure into adaptive, responsive, and resource-efficient systems. Sensor-based monitoring improves visibility across water networks, while artificial intelligence and predictive models support early identification of abnormal conditions. Automated control mechanisms further enable dynamic regulation of water distribution according to changing demand and system conditions. Despite these benefits, implementation remains constrained by high investment requirements, cybersecurity risks, data-quality limitations, interoperability challenges, and shortages of specialized technical expertise. Future development should therefore focus on interoperable platforms, explainable artificial intelligence, resilient communication networks, renewable-energy-powered monitoring, and integrated digital twins. Intelligent water management technologies can ultimately provide a foundation for resilient, efficient, and environmentally responsible infrastructure when technological innovation is combined with appropriate governance and long-term planning. |
